If you’re looking to save some money at home, one of the easiest ways to do it is to look on YouTube.

There are thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands, of videos out there that teach you how to improve your home on a budget. These could be through some general advice, or some easy DIY tricks to save you hiring a professional.

Many of these videos are duplicates, time wasters, and plain suck. So I’ve grabbed the best few for you and compiled them into this easy to consume post. Take a look:

Make your own fabric softener

This video shows you 3 easy ingredients you can put together to create your own fabric softener and save yourself spending a fortune annually on buying in fancy brand names.

For Ladies Only: Trim your hair at home

My fiance said that I should be very clear that guys should under no circumstances do this, but for girls, it’s perfectly fine to give your hair a trim at home. It’ll save you a bit of money and it’s rather simple to do. Check out this video to find out how.

Tint your windows

This is pretty cool, but I’ve never tried it because we have blinds. It basically saves you the need of spending hundreds of dollars on a blind or curtain. Instead you just tint the window to stop so much sunlight getting through, just like how sunglasses work.

You can also get magic (sticky) blackout rolls for this, again, not tried them – just seen them around.

Home made air conditioner?

I would never try this, but I just thought it was cool to see how it could be done if you wanted to. I’ll just stick to paying for a real air conditioner though!

Live in a smaller house

This is a cool video about a family that live in a 168sqft house, sound impossible? Not for them. This video does not show you how to live in a smaller house, if you want to try this, you’ll just need to experience it for yourself. But it does show how their family does it and may inspire you to downsize your property, at least a little bit.

So there you have it, my favourite 5 YouTube videos on saving money in your home. What do you think? Is there any particular videos you really love or have you tried any of the techniques shared in these videos?
